The Challenge

OzMac was experiencing persistent compressed air performance issues that were impacting workshop efficiency and tool reliability. Given the age of the existing compressors, there was concern that full replacement may be required.

However, replacing compressors would represent a significant capital expense, and there was no clear evidence that the compressors themselves were the root cause of the problem.

The challenge was to:

  • Identify the true cause of compressed air performance issues
  • Determine whether existing compressors could continue to operate reliably
  • Restore system performance without unnecessary equipment replacement

The QCAS Approach

Dale from QCAS carried out a detailed audit of the compressed air system, taking a system-wide view rather than focusing solely on the compressors.

The audit identified that the core issue was not compressor failure, but faults and inefficiencies within the Air Lines, which were restricting airflow and reducing system performance at point of use.

QCAS’ scope of work included:

  • Repairing and servicing the existing compressor equipment
  • Redesigning and rectifying the Air Lines to remove restrictions and faults
  • Ensuring the system configuration matched the operational demands of the workshop
  • Verifying system performance following remediation

By addressing the true source of the issue, QCAS delivered a solution that restored performance without unnecessary capital expenditure.

The Outcome

Following the remediation works, OzMac regained reliable compressed air performance across their workshop.

Key outcomes include:

  • Restoration of consistent compressed air supply for fabrication operations
  • Avoidance of premature compressor replacement
  • Extension of the existing compressor equipment’s service life by approximately four years
  • Improved confidence in system reliability and workshop productivity
  • A cost-effective outcome driven by technical diagnosis rather than equipment sales

The project demonstrates QCAS’ commitment to honest advice, accurate fault diagnosis, and solutions that genuinely align with the customer’s operational needs.
